Great looking bass. I'd have to say that Pete Hanewinckel is one of my favorite luthiers.

I like how #'s 7 and 8 sound. Really beefy! Beautiful bass!

OK, here's the first more proper recording done with this bass. Other than the drum loops, all the sounds are from the new bass:

- opening slap riff is the "outside" coils; it begins "amplified" and slowly transitions to completely direct and clean

- jazz guitar is "inside" coils, thru an Alembic preamp

- strummed chords is the "right" coil of the bridge pickup (the closest coil to the bridge), thru the Alembic and with some chorus

- picked bassline is all 4 coils, again thru the Alembic, with a tiny bit of flange

Beautiful! I have a Signature 5 that Pete built for me about a year ago that I absolutely love. He does great work. I was one of those folks who was always looking for something better until I got my Hanewinckel. The more I play this bass, the more I like it.

Can you tell us how the pickups are wired? I'd like to see if I can wire my bass in a similar fashion (mine also has two dual-coil pickups).

elros - I don't have the exact schematic, but I think there are some examples on the Bartolini website of how to wire up a dual coil to a three-way switch so you get either coil or both in parallel.

BTW - the strings on it for that recording are GHS Progressives (I think). They were new when I got it on Friday, but by last night they'd lost a lot of "zing". They're not dead, but they're pretty solidly in the "middle" of life right now.
