New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

It seems people are only excited about the multi-scale versions, and those are the ones being sold the most. I'm personally over the multi-scale thing after I got my Dingwall, and discovered that although I can play it fine, it just doesn't feel as natural or comfortable to me. So I'm actually much more interested in the normal scale version, and I might sell my Dingwall NG-2 5-string and replace it with the 1005 or 1505 5-string.

Too bad the 1005 only comes in black. I'd have liked more options for the finish. I don't think Nordstrand PUs are necessarily better than Bartolini PUs (different, but not objectively better), and I don't need more expensive fancy wood grain finishes, so saving a few hundred dollars with the 1005 seems like a great deal. I don't know why they don't just offer the matte white finish of the 1000 for the 1005 too (and vice versa). And if they released it in yellow with black hardware, I'd jump on it instantly.

I think they really shot themselves in the foot with the limited paint options for each model...

As someone who owns an NG2 and an SRMS805, I can assure you the Ibanez multiscale feels light years different than the Dingwall multiscale. The Ibanez multiscale is pretty tame by comparison, and doesn't feel much different than parallel frets. I wouldn't write it off solely based on your experience with the Dingwall.

Oh, screw it.

Just changed my Sweetwater preorder from a sea foam green EHB1005MS to a tropical seafloor EHB1505MS. I was feeling less and less happy with the idea of a basswood body, and the upgraded woods and pickups plus neck binding tipped me over the edge.

The one that is allocated to me is even due in earlier than the first, probably due to fewer orders.

Maybe I’ll do my defretted P5 in sea foam green now..

I got my preorder in for the mulsticale 5 string seafloor towards the end of January and I was Sweetwater's first preorder, so it seems like they're not getting flooded with preorders. I bet a lot of people are interested but want to see more hands-on reviews before pulling the trigger.

To be honest, I probably would have stuck with the 1005 if it was alder or something other than basswood. But, I’ve always wanted a burl topped bass...

Welp, it's no EHB, but I was able to grab a next-to-new Mikro 5er for $130... hopefully it will assuage my GAS for a while...

I've heard the less-severe multi-scales are a lot more comfortable than Dingwall's 3-inch difference. I'll have to try one in person and see how it feels.

The low B surprisingly decent for a low-end bass. Can it be floppy? Of course, but with practice and technique adjustments I think it will be just fine.

I am not a 5 string player normally, but I don't have a single "pure" J bass config and this was on sale. I can get the action pretty low and the frets were about perfect out of the gate.

The weakest link (as you would expect) is the hardware though its probably equal/better than anything you find on another $130 5er and you won't get a ultra short scale anywhere else under $200.

I'm upgrading the pots and dropping in a passive KellingSound tone pot with mid contour... just waiting for the parts to arrive

Something to note is that if you do go for the 1505, the Nordstrands are a standard P2 size, which makes it easier to find replacement pickups if you ever decide you want to change them.

Not to get too far off topic, but the five-string Mikro is very well suited to being strung E to C. That's how I have mine strung right now.

Looks like it. Go to the Ibanez website and pull each one up, they have the features bullet-pointed at the bottom of the product pages. I could have sworn they had different electronics but they are the same as far as I can tell.
