New John Davis of Nerve Interview

The only gripe I have is that this is obviously an email interview, so there's a lot of followup questions that are lost...

Now, that doesn't really bother me, because I (like the rest of our TB bretheren) have access to John through PMs, threads, and the like, but I'd sure be interested to know, for example, why the OC-2 is his most essential effect. I might be able to figure it out, since I've read his posts, listened to Nerve, etc., but it'd sure be cool to hear it from the horse's mouth.

The OC2 has become an integral part of my sound probably mostly because I've used it for so long... I started using it when I began playing in Nerve back in late 2002. So for 8 years, the OC2 has been the basis for so much of the music I've played.

If I try to quantify what it is about the OC2 that works so well for me, I think it comes down to the pitch tracking speed, dynamic range, and punchy/thumpy attack.

That is what I like about it...

The reason that it is the only pedal I would need for an electronic gig is that it IMMEDIATELY transforms the bass into an electronic instrument for me... everything else is just ways to modify that sound.

OMG :bawl:

The interview mentions that Nerve will play in Japan... Just checked the tour dates. I will be in Malaysia during the week Nerve is in Japan, to attend my friends' wedding (the couple are both close friends of mine)... :(

I wonder if my friends will understand if I skip out on their wedding... This would clearly be a case of "extenuating circumstances". :p

tell them you're not going because destination weddings suck ;)

LOL! It's also an Islamic wedding, which means no booze. I won't even be able to drink my sorrows away. :p

I also found out that I missed an opportunity for my band to gig during that week. One of our acquaintances had a gig in a prime location, but had to cancel. They were willing to "give" us their slot for free. However, gigs come and go, so I can live with that. But missing a Nerve gig??!!! This really hurts. :bawl: (Actually, I'm missing 2 Nerve gigs because they play in the neighboring city of Yokohama as well as in Tokyo.)

Tone Factor wanted me to keep all these interviews short and sweet so 8 questions or so.

What I'd like to do at some point is get some guys doing fx lessons such as how do I make my bass sound like a synth or a screaming baby falling from an airplane :D
