I put a set on yesterday. I think I like them. They're a bit darker than the rounds I had on before. I'm trying to play the heck out of them to see what they settle in to be. The no stretch thing is real when you put them on. I tuned them up, and they were good to go and held tuning pretty well.
So, now I've tried three of these Stang series.
- Flats - absolutely love them. Put a set on a JMJ right when I got it, and they are still awesome. I expect them to stay on the bass for the rest of my life.
- Black nylon tape - I really didn't like the sound of these. They were dull and dark beyond what I'd ever want and well beyond the warmth of the flats. Being a short scale, there's already some top end lost, and these are like turning your treble and mid knobs to zero.
- Super polished - good initial impression. We'll see going forward. I might go back to rounds just because being in between rounds and flats might not be the distinction I want from my Mustang with the flats, but these feel great. I think they're a great hybrid.
