I'd love to have a mac (if only they weren't so excruciatingly expensive to buy over here. I can get the same kind of specs on a normal PC for easily 300-400 euro's cheaper)

And simply put:
3D Studio Max => Windows
Games => Windows

Luckily my current config is compatible with OS X so I have it on dual-boot for those times where I'm not gaming.

FYI All Intel Macs (Most Macs within last 1.5 years) will run 3D Studio Max and most Windows games without breaking a sweat using Apple's Bootcamp software to boot natively into Windows XP or Vista.

Also, the real reason I dug this post up - how are you able to dual-boot into OS X on your PC setup? Do tell!

Yeah, but who wants to reboot every time you want to play a game and then reboot when you're finished playing to get back into Mac apps? There is also the Parallels program but last I heard it doesn't support 3D graphics acceleration. There are a couple of other programs...haven't heard much on them. I'm sure at some point in the near future there will be a GOOD Mac program that allows one to play the top PC games easily and then switch back to Mac OS without rebooting.

I may end up with a mac at some point because I realize that they have a lot to offer but what I don't like about Macs is the propietary nature of the beast and the lack of easy do-it-yourself stuff like what the PC offers under the PC OS options (Windows, Linux, etc). I don't like that I can't just easily build my own Mac and throw the Mac OS on there. Actually I don't know if that's true but that's the impression I get. Anyway, Mac is a bit too controlling for my tastes. Say what you will about Micro$oft but I like that I can just go buy an OEM Windows and throw it on any old machine that I want without a problem. Those + gaming are the reasons I stick with PCs for now but I'm not die-hard for anything. I want what will serve my interests the best. Maybe that will be a Mac in the future.

I was planning for a desktop update soonish, but if the Mac Mini goes down the toilet as they seem to be rumoring, I might have to settle to replacing my old iBook with a MacBook and just run a similar setup :hmm:

I'd love it if they put better CPUs in the Minis. Or some kind of new, faster, budget desktop.

The cause for rumour is that it's been ages since the Mini has been updated, so they are speculating that there's going to be a large change soon, likely the termination of the product. No idea if they are going to replace it with anything.
