Long time viewer and lurker, first time poster. Happy to be 'out.'
I've used TalkBass, and all of your invaluable opinions, to expand my gear knowledge and, when necessary, make educated purchases--and fuel my GAS! The forum is an incredible resource, and your opinions make it so. Thanks for that.
I'm in my 50's and a longtime bass player, who couldn't do much since his wild youth playing in rock and punk bands, until the kids got older. I practiced, jammed with friends, and played along to recorded music for years. But I kept practicing and working my chops hoping I would some day get back out and play again. Now I'm finally gigging and loving it.
I've a basic approach to playing: I just love locking in with a drummer, having fun weaving bass lines, and getting folks moving. I have been inspired mostly by the blues, (classic) rock, punk rock, ska, reggae. I have a long list of favorite players, including Macca (of course), Carl Radle, Bruce Thomas, Duck, Tommy Shannon, and a slew of 'nameless' blues bassists, who held the bottom for countless blues artists.
My ideal situation is to keep the blues alive by playing in a band that grinds out dirty blues in the truest spirit of the genre.
