New member with a question

Hello TalkBass members. This is my first post. I am a long time guitar player who through necessity, has to play bass to record music, since I have no band. I can hold my own with sufficient work on a given song, and I have a healthy respect for the special skills and demands on real bass players.

In any event, I have a few pressing questions, but I will put them in separate threads, for simplicity.

My question here is, do any of you play in open tunings, or more specifically open G (DGDG, if this is the same as open G on a guitar, i.e., DGDGBD)? Being mostly an open tuning guitar player, I find this tuning works well for me, but I am curious about whether any of you use alternate tunings on 4 string bass.

Edit: Hmmm... I suppose I should have put this post in the general forum, as its not directly string related. I had my second question in mind when I started it.

Thanks for the replies. For me, I am sure it is related to my strong preference for open guitar tunings. If I try to play standard tuning bass over open tuning guitar, it does not go well, but if I play standard tuning guitar, then indeed I use standard bass tuning.
