New Mesa/Boogie Fathom Amp

I also love the look of this wine with tan grill. The Fathom would look great in this also.

both of these (tan and wine) do look very cool. I saw one of the tan ones at Gelb Music in Redwood City last year. The only thing about the lighter colored tan one is that its going to look pretty shabby pretty quickly unless you are totally anal about covering it when you move it. Unless it isn't going to leave the house much, it's going to look pretty "vintage" very. OTOH, that may be even cooler though, like an old blonde bassman.
I was actually thinking the Walkabout would look cool done in one of the older style hardwood cabinets with the Mesa wicker grills.

The blond (Vanilla Bronco) Scout I posted was taken to at least 10 gigs/mo for a couple years. I used the thin Mesa Cover. The amp shows 'slight' wear, but it's still in great shape. Just depends on whether you cover it when transporting. Otherwise, I agree, it can show wear faster than the darker cabinet coverings.
yep, well I did say "if you are totally anal about covering it" ... it IS a cool looking covering though .. I like it alot. I'm personally just not very careful of my gear when moving it/using it. I have Mesa padded covers for all my stuff, and since the dog and the cat died, I just don't even bother anymore. My covers were really there to make sure the pets did not ... ummmm .. "individually customize" my amps and cabs.

OK guys...I just want to clear up a few misconceptions that have been stated here. I have a close friend at Mesa, and here is the real "skinny" on what's going on with the Fathom:
There is currently "no" lawsuit with respect to the name Fathom...however, Mesa was contacted by the other company mentioned previously, regarding the use of the name "Fathom". In order to avoid any issues, problems, or just general hassles that could come up legally, Mesa decided to just rename the product.
The new name will be "M6 Carbine", and should be officially announced within the next few days. This information has been distributed to the sales group at Mesa and a new ad and website update will be out soon.
As far as having a warehouse full of "Fathom's" that will need to be disassembled and have a new faceplate put on, Mesa is building the M6 Carbine "to order"...there is no warehouse full of Fathom labeled amps...Mesa is a high end amp manufacturer, and does not mass produce their stuff like that.
I hope this clears the air a little...BTW, I have one here to test out, and so far my impressions are "holy cow this thing is loud for a 600 watt head!"...and I love the simplicity, the two-space rack size, and the lower weight. I'm going to gig it this weekend

Hey guys, this is my first post on Talk Bass Forum but I have been reading your posts for some time now. I felt I had to chime in with the Fathom (M6 Carbine.)
After Namm, and without hearing a single thing about the Fathom, I had my store order one in as I was curious to check it out. I have to be honest with you, I played one note and this thing really jumped at me. I'm a very picky player about amps but had nothing but a smile on my face. I never thought Mesa could make something that sounds this great for bass and doesn't have 50 knobs like my M-2000. I've always been a 4x10 kind of guy but now I think 2x12 is where it's at. I never have to turn up much, lots of headroom. Tight and punchy. I find myself rolling off the highs as I heard others saying the same thing. Why couldn't this have come out years ago?
So, with that, I figured, let me try this on a gig. 5 gigs later (and another employees 3 gigs) I've never been happier. I've never gotten so many compliments. And if you must know, yes I recently took home this amp, I knew I would from the start. I couldn't wait for Mesa to be build me one so this one will do. It is number 76 if I remember right. Still waiting on the slipcover of course. I hope Mesa gets the marketing on track for the M6 Carbine. I just liked how Fathom sounded but I'm sure they will do right.

Yea, I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who isn't floored by this amp. I have it running through an Eden 2x10, and between the two I have more thump and ringing highs with more headroom than I could ever hope for. Like I said above, the simple interface is amazing, the sub bass pull out and the voice functions mold your tone like none other. I wonder how many Fathoms they actually made before pulling back to rebrand them? I know I have #40 : )
Talked with Mesa Hollywood today and they told me probably about 4 weeks till the new "Fathoms" come in.\

I didn't want to be the guy who was not floored, but I was not. After reading/hearing the post-NAMM buzz, I was hoping to be totally taken by it but went expecting even more of the heavily tube influenced MPulse line tone. I was very disappointed to hear that it sounded more SS like (think SWR, GK) than MPulse-like.
Personally I went with an MPulse600 driven Venture 2x12 combo.
of course, YMMV and more power to your gear of choice

keep in mind...the M6 Carbine is not a Simul-State head, like the M-Pulse line...it's using a different type Mosfet power section.

It now appears that I know where some of the wait time, and lack of build confirmation, comes from.
One question though:
When my "M6 CARBINE" Combo arrives do I have to register with the N.R.A. and my local authorities before I can "Fire It Up" and play?

On a side note, I have a jl audio fathom and it is the best sub woofer I have ever heard. Would love to try out A Mesa m6 or whatever its called now. Sounds like a sweet amp

Looks like a SWR Mo' Bass in that photo. I've owned that too, and found it to be a different breed of SWR. The SWR that I think sounds alot like the Fathom is the SM900. Lots of headroom, really clean sound.
I was not knocked out by the Fathom. Call it what you will. Its just not that much of a departure from the really good solid state amps that have been around for the last 10 years.

M6 CARBINE? come on, that name has to be a joke. I could only imagine the accompanying prose on the website to this one. Hopefully it (the ad copy) won't be as sappy as the Fathom's was. Remember that one dudes?
Maybe something along these lines, "with the sheer force of a bullet exploding from the M6 Carbine your sound will knock 'em dead!"
Too over the top? OK how about, "Take no prisoners with the new (renamed) M6 Carbine from Mesa"
