Agreed. I posted a thread about these a while back, but apparently nobody's played one yet. I just might special order one and hope it's up to par.
Yeah, as far as I know nobody has these, so I'd have to order one. I emailed them asking what the scale length was, too- it looks like it's a short scale, and if it is, then that is awesome.
I'd probably wanna install some kind of pickup, too, as I don't think I'd wanna mic it all the time.

Yup... Got one hanging on the wall. 30 inch scale and feels and sounds very good. Very loud.

Damn... sounds awesome until you mention it's a 30" scale. That would just kill my low C.

Intriguing. A 30" resonator bass should be right up my alley, if it had some kind of pick up in it. How much are they, roughly?
Now, I feel just the opposite. I read about the short scale and decided right then I needed one of these. Add that to the list, I guess.
The "metal thing" is the resonater. I've seen guitars and dobros with this feature but the first in a bass. It increases the sound of the bass (thus no pickup). I got mine for $500 and that seems to be about the going price (retails officially for $550). A shop has one up on e-bay right now.
I've always wanted a bass I could carry to an acoustic jam (like at bluegrass festivals) and jam without plugging in (I don't play standup). I'm not sure this will have quite the punch I'll need for a loud jam but it's still a lot better than nothing. It's loud enough that I can play along with tunes on my i-pod and hear it well.
I got the sunburst model btw and it is truely beautiful.

I haven't played the MK model (I did see a recent thread that had Les Claypool playing one of these & sounding good!), but as a builder of resonator basses, I can say that resonators have more midrange than a standard acoustic bass guitar.
If you are going to play onstage, you are going to most likely plug in anyway, but I have played with a couple of guitars and even a banjo and still been able to be heard acoustically. I don't know of many, if any ABG's that can pull that off. That is what first drew me to this style of instrument to begin with.
I build both long and short scale versions of reso's and I feel that the long scale models offer more acoustic volume and sustain (much like solid body instruments), though the short scale models have a unique sound and feel as well.
I feel that the imported models that are available (including the MK Bayou)offer a lot of bang for the buck and are a great way to get into resonator style instruments.

Fender came out with one of those a not to long ago......been discontinued. Guess it did not sell well.
I recently saw a bass guitar quite similar yet it had a banjo like body but it was an electric bass. Just made to appear like a Banjo. I saw a gent at Disney's California Adventure playing it. Just thought it was quite different.
