New Model Rickenbacker Bass!?!

Since I am new to the Ric club, does this happen often because they were small batches?

I ask, because I wish I would have picked up a Walnut one as well.

If so, lesson learned I’ll pull the trigger harder next time.

Yes it happens from time to time. I don't remember seeing it THIS bad. I can think of a few times the flippers were getting $1k to $2K over. Never 3 times over original. And these weren't even a one of a kind. There were 20.

Lesson is, anyone who hesitates misses out. You'll get one of the next batch.

Thanks, and how often does Ric normally do a batch of something like this?

Please forgive all the questions, and thanks.

That gets my goat! What a tosser!
Explanation for Aussie term "gets my goat" loll

To "get someone's goat" means to highly annoy, irritate, or provoke them. It is an idiom commonly used when someone really rubs you the wrong way, much like an itch you can't scratch or a frustrating situation that boils your blood.

The Racehorse Theory: A well-known explanation suggests that goats were historically placed in racehorses' stalls to keep the skittish animals calm . If rivals wanted to make the horse agitated and ruin its chances of winning, they would steal or remove ("get") the goat.

Tosser should be self explanatory loll

You can find out all sorts of information in TB loll

Man alive, they look like the little Shaftesbury copies from the '70s.

View attachment 7479550
Ah yes! I have one of these. Nice bass. These Shaftesburys were actually the first basses in the Rickenbacker 330 style, so the new 3030 (along with the previous 4005XC) could actually be regarded as Shaftesbury copies by Rickenbacker!

About the new 3030, I think the neck is just too short. It's silly. What I do like however is the use of old style Schaller tuners. I wonder if those are leftover old stock? Schaller doesn't seem to have made them in that style for quite a few years now... I'd love to get hold of a 2+2 set of these so I hope it's not just some sort of Rickenbacker exclusive... For a long time those tuners were used on Gibson basses so it would be great if Schaller put them back into production, for those needing a spare tuner or four for their Gibson bass.

I would say they release something special exactly when you least expect it, which for me is usually about five minutes after I check the store. Or is that just my luck? There are instantgram accounts /itsbacknotbach/ and another /rickenbackerofficial/ and a faceybook page at /ricguitars. I don't have access to them, but I hear that specials sometimes get posted there before they hit the boutique. A few members here seem to have some advanced or special knowledge and have posted about specials, helping others get something good (thanks to @nixdad for my 3030). If I remember correctly, the 3030 announcement in March said something that made it sound like there could be more in the future. The way they sold out so fast, I think they will make more. Then again, once people get them in their hands and play them (not flip them) and post reviews, plans could change. If musicians don't like them, Ric might not make more. I've seen a number of negative comments about the 3030 from people who haven't seen one in person. Who knows. I was surprised the boutique had the 20 Noir 4003 so quickly followed by the 3030. Does anyone else remember so many specials released so quickly?

Keep asking questions Scott.

Hey Steve -
There's no set pattern to how Rickenbacker's Factory Specials are released - sometimes there's a flurry of activity like we just witnessed, and sometimes there's months of drought; sometimes there's a hint on social media that something is coming several months in advance (like we just witnessed with the 3030's & 4002 basses,) and sometimes there's no notice at all; sometimes several instruments are available all at once (re: the 20 Noir 4003 basses and 3030's,) and sometimes they're released in a trickle (like the 4002 basses); the Noir's were announced on social media the night before, but no one knew until the day they became available about how many there were. There's also no specific time of day when instruments will show up in the Boutique.🤷‍♂️

I'm not a big fan of the "special release" marketing plan.

I do love they're existing models, if they would offer some different finishes / wood options I think it would be huge. checker binding is a good example, why can't that be an optional upgrade? Black trim?, same thing.

Oh, we'll be making more of these for sure.

It's here, it's here. Say hello to my little friend. It's almost to small to have been taken away from it's mother. 3030 Fireglo. OK, no more jokes. This thing is awesome!!! I love it. My short fingers cover a five fret spread perfectly. I have to get used to the shorter reach to the nut but that's minor. The body is not too big for my fat belly. I will measure it later, but I think it's a bit smaller than my 4005xc. There are a whole range of tones that will take me forever to figure out. The flat strings are perfect for this bass. Fit and finish are flawless. I'm thrilled. I will post more details tomorrow (sorry for the delay) but it's time for dinner. Thank you Rickenbacker.

They're not the same size? 🤔

So I did a little measuring between the 3030 and 4005xc. They have the same size body. To me, the 3030 body seems a little smaller, I think because the bass is lighter, the neck obviously shorter, and the 3030 has softer edges where the 4005xc has the edge binding. Plus. its been a while since I played the 4005xc, so my memory of it might have been a little off. Here's a picture of them together with the tails lined up. The pickups on both basses are in the same location, but the saddles on the 3030 are about a half an inch or so closer to the bridge pickup. It's a small amount, but I can see it in person.

I am really shocked at how well it compares to more other basses that were so much more $$$$. What an extraordinarily well made instrument.

Oh, and it sounds and plays amazing. It’s like a really comfortable guitar sized bass that still maintains a well rounded highend thump.
Great choice on strings.
