New(old) Amp Day: Fender Super Twin

Thanks - I was looking at JohnK's thread on these amps earlier this morning, and was thinking of buying one from Mojotone... I already discovered the source of the amp's initial troubles regarding hum when off standby: it has a mismatch of powertubes including one that is marked GE LY 188-5... near as I can tell, this is actually a 6550, while the rest are 6l6 types... I swapped that out for a known good 6l6 I had on hand, and swapped a preamp tube out - it had a 12AX7 in a slot that's supposed to have a 12AT7 in it... I didn't have any of those on hand, but did have a couple 12AU7s, so I put that in - fired it up, and it's actually doing pretty well... With a matched and biased set of powertubes, and a little additional TLC, I think I'll be good to go...

A little bump to show forward progress:

I replaced 5 burnt resistors, 2 damaged power tube sockets, installed a new matched sextet of JJ 6l6's from Eurotubes, replaced the preamp tubes - then had a reputable tech go thru it to insure it didn't have any other issues...

After that, I started to make a headcase for it - which was a little slow going, since my carpenter skills aren't the greatest, and it's been put on the back burner *a few* times due to more pressing priorities... At any rate, it is 100% operational, and will be getting new tolex, corners, and a grill cloth for the front... I still have the original Fender logo that will be going on it, and I'm considering having a custom grill for the back made, instead of making one like an original headcase would have, since I think it would provide better protection and air flow... I'll also probably mount a cooling fan in there as well.... Here's some current pics:

Thanks - I didn't change anything regarding the jacks... In combo form, there was a plug connected to the speakers that plugged into the SPKR Jack:



Also, the SPKR Jack is a shorting jack - presumably, so that no amp damage could occur if the speaker plug became unplugged...

In your replacements and updates have you heard of removing the 330pf treble bleed cap (off pin 6 of V1A) and the increasing the negative feedback resistor to 2.2K?
