New Old Bass Day

Although I have a classic Sabre on order in the cool Neptune Blue finish I came across this bass for sale and could not resist. 1993 blueburst Stingray with alder (or maybe poplar) body, flamed maple finished neck. It's very pretty and sounds great. It's serial number is 398 older than my 1993 (original) sunburst fretless.

Oh yeah, that's nice! Gorgeous! How much did you get it for bro?

I paid £800 for the blueburst (and £750 for the sunburst fretless a few years back). For info I have the original 1993 receipt for the sunburst - it was £720 or so.

I had wanted a standard fretted 3 band Ray for general use and this came up. The non ash body on the blueburst gives a smoother sound to my ears than the ash sunburst. It's subtle but different, and the EBMM three band pre really works well with it and can produce very mellow tones - but I can't get it to sound what I would call raucously harsh without really pulling the strings hard. It came with DR Marcus Miller sig strings and they are quite nice on this bass.

If you haven't already ... go to the MM bass forum - Serial Number thread - and enter your serial number - they will (usually very quickly) tell you DOB, where it was originally shipped to etc..
