New old bass player

Ever been just sittin' around, watching TV or whatever, or even doing something, working on the car, mowing the lawn, and WHAM!---it hits you, "I gotta play!!" Then, you turn off the tube, throw down the wrench, jump off the mower and get right down to playing right away. It's been that way for me my whole life. I ran into an old playing bud recently who said he hasn't played in years. I don't understand how you can NOT play. I really am obsessed with it, and it's the reason I got good at it early on. I just couldn't help it. And, I guess I'm typical in some ways in that sometimes other things don't get done because I HAVE to play.

Thing is, no matter what your age, playing music will enrich your life. Try sitting with the lights off sometime, with just the amp light's glow, and let your mind empty as you play. It's magic.

and there is so much you can say on the bass-- in it's short history, the electric bass remains flexible and fluid in so many types of music that to name them I would be sure to leave something out... in both the craft and the art of playing music...bass still stands out as an emotional instrument...especially when taking the time and effort to understand and practice the basic mechanics of music to improve the craftsmanship of your playing...and frees you to express the art of playing...something unique to you..

I have always been a ....self contained person but I have already noticed that I play better when i let myself go so to speak. I think I am starting to understand what you are saying.

yes, be sure to learn good Musical Content when you practice-It gives you the foundation and sure footedness to playing as a '' Disciple of Emotion''....I believe Chuck Rainey said that....In teaching students over 40 especially, I've found that having them study music and also good playing technique with the left hand pivoting and the relationship of the bass to the body gives them the groundwork to create and function..... not hard, just doing the right stuff a little every day.
