New older amp day

Is ths one of those weird tone stacks where 5-5-5 is not flat?

yup.

of course, that's what's coming out of the preamp. what is coming out of the output section and the speaker is another story. ;)

Fuzzybeard, I got a feeling you might be trying to accomplish the same thing I do using my bassman135 for guitar. Jumping channels, having it set to run on 2 power tubes instead of 4, diming channel volumes, etc. Does sparkly cleans and clean twang great, needs a pedal for everything else. Fortunately, they take really well to pedals.

For light breakup, a VT Bass pedal might give you what you are looking for. I use one to give me distortion at a lower volume.

In terms of the amp, the bias can checked and if within the limits of the tubes, the amp can be biased to make the amp distort sooner. There are low noise 7025 tubes in the amp. You can try some tube rolling to look for a tube that will give you some dirt.

tube screamers aren't really fuzz tones per se, and they are capable of light breakup if you set them up that way. IMO, they're great when used with fender amps when you just need a little more 'push'.

+1

The tubescreamer goes from very mild to about like cranking up a tube amp, they're not full blown distortion, lots of inbetween in there.

I guess i just thought i was doing something wrong! I mean i found very little about the bassman 20 being used for bass. But what i did find all discounted it with things like it will break up to early and not loud enough! I know you cant take every thing as gospel but come on they were completly wrong! I cant get it to breakup and it is very loud for the wattage rating!

I am a tube amp newb so chime in if i am doing somthing wrong volume=10 treble=1 middle=10 bass=1. I have this thing dimed and rattling the walls! And if your local (cincy area) come show me what i am doing wrong!

Other than that my sb-12 goes out tuesday to tech. So when that is up and running i guess i'll find my lite breakup there!LOL
