I heard a player using the PJB 9B and the sound was amazing. The sound was unbelievably full and rich, and cut through the mix like something I've never heard. The only drawback was the sound was not vintage but very modern. If the sound of an Ampeg SVT or an Orange is your idea of how a bass should sound, that's not going to come from a PJB. I would like to hear a 9B using my Boogie D180 to see if I could get a sound I would love out of it.

@ countrybass... I agree. The sound is rather hi fi and there is a place for that. Sometimes not. That's why I still have my Avatar cabs. But for jazz there is NOTHING that will beat the PJ cabs for getting that articulate mid range that helps with drawing that woody, organic sound. But I do encourage you to check out a 9B. I would love to hear what you think of it.

The EQ is much more advanced than on my Suitcase, and I could get a less hi-fi sound by adjusting the lows. Big outdoor gig this Sat., so it will get a real good test.

Big outdoor gig last night, and to give my BG-800 a good test I used it by itself for the first set. It did a great job, and the audience said the bass sounded great. The band liked the sound too, and even the drummer said he could really hear the bass. Second set I fired up my Orange rig, and the combination of the two in stereo made me too happy for words. The BG-800 cranked up to almost max volume stayed totally clean, and with a liitle tweaking on the EQ gave me a very full bass sound. My Lakland passive bass worked great with the PJB, and is already my fave with the Orange.

Hey CB007 I'm getting interested in the neo cabs. Unfortunately there's zero opportunity for me to hear one. Can you tell me about the tone of the pjb's? If you're able to compare them to say the berg ae or epi ul cabs I'd really owe you a beer or ten.

The tone of the PJBs is a bit different from anything else. The multiple speakers and their size give them a sound that I find more open, if that's the right term. They seem less directional than other cabs, and the sound seems to be fuller, and fills the room better than most. If you like a dirtier sound, like I can get with my Orange rig, PJB is not your thing. But if you like a strong, clean sound, I feel the PJBs are the best in their class. The EQ on both my PJB amps allows me to get the deeper bass tone that I like, and cuts through the mix like no other. Anyone who doesn't think the PJBs cut through the mix haven't heard one being used to it's best advantage.

The EQ adjustments on my PJBs seems to make alot of difference in the tones and levels of the bass, midrange and treble. I have tried the cabs with my Boogie D180, and they produce a strong, full bass tone with it also. They don't seem to be as loud on stage as most cabs, but it carries out into the crowd nicely. Again, I'm one of the fortunate few that has a PJB dealer 45 minutes away. The neo cabs sound to me just like the standard cabs, with maybe just a tad more high end response.

The rule of thumb I've heard is: three PJ drivers is roughly equal to one 10" driver in output.

Is the BG800 roughly equal to a 4x10 in output? If so, does it seem capable of handling, say, a club that seats 250, or an outdoor gig without any bass though the PA?

Hmmm... sounds interesting! I'm looking for something that's clear and open with a relatively flat response like a good PA. Lately I seem to be tiring of the forward mids that some cabs deliver to 'cut thru'. I've started to wonder if a more neutral and supportive but still punchy cab is what I'm really after. Maybe that's a pjb??

How is the treble response without a tweeter? I'm a jazz bass/stainless roundwounds kinda guy.

According to the manual (and also my ears), 4 drivers roughly equals the output of a moderate SPL 110 box. So, the 6 driver cab is roughly like a 112, and the 8 driver cab is kind of like a 210, although with lower SPL than more traditional drivers to my ear. So, the 12 driver combo would be similar to a tightly voiced 212 cab (at 6ohms).

The PJB Roadcase puts out alot more bass out to the crowd than my GK1001RBII with a neo GK212 in the GK bi-amp mode. It doesn't seem as loud on stage, but the volume seems to carry well out front. I asked the people listening how the bass sounded, and everyone I asked said it sounded good. This isn't trained bassists by any means, but ultimately what the crowd hears is the most important part of a performance. I'm not trying to sell PJB gear, but I was very impressed and happy with the sound. The fact that I didn't have to have it blasting on stage to get a good sound to the crowd is a big plus in my book.
