New pickups same sound... ¿what to do?

Thanks. This is exactly what I was talking about.

I tested it both ways and I couldn't hear a difference (but my ears are 62 years old - I can't hear much above 10K). It was suggested that with the finishes tied (hot and ground from the starts, closest to magnets) that there would be more noise if you touch a magnet. But I didn't find that when I tested it.

It seems like it could (should?) make a difference - but I couldn't hear it.

I suggest going to YouTube and listening through your headphones or your stereo system different split pickups demoed for you bass. I am replacing the Bartolini P&J in my American Precision. I was looking for a different sound. I have always liked Lindy Fralin 10% over wound Precision bass pickups but they are expensive. Listened to the Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pickups among others and decided the Lindy Fralin pickups will be the ones.

What kind of sound did you want? Maybe get an eq pedal?

Strings are the biggest change in how a bass sounds.
This is very common on pickup replacements.

Try different strings to find a tone your looking for is what I meant.

Really? You bought new pickups, installed them, wasn't impressed with the tone, called Amazon and got free pickups? I'll give that one a try, I've had that happen with a few items like CDs or books that were damaged...but pickups?

Amazon will do just about anything to keep a customer. They gave me an extra month of Prime because Ontrac delivery screwed up.

You could also swap out your Pots since it's a Squier with some CTS Pots. An inexpensive upgrade but might be worth it.
