Double Bass New! Pirastro Perpetual Double Bass strings

I agree they’re good strings. If Pirastro ever makes a full Stark set, I’ll try them again for sure.
Which Spirocores you have?I just purchased a G and D Stark (Perpetual) to try out. I've had a full set Spirocores on for awhile now... I never could feel great about the G string... we will see how this combo works out...
No matter what I do I cant seem to get over the perpetuals on my bass. The E string seemed a little dead so I threw a spiro on there, took it off a few days ago and put on the perpetaul again, more growl came back and i think i just had to clean it. i actually want it to die down a little. Really don't know why I bother worrying about strings at this point, that set is gonna be on another year or two at least.
Nice! Still really digging them on my bass. Finding they work well for Old-Time/traditional, Americana/Roots, and sitting in with the local youth orchestra. And they feel great under the hands. They seem to have cured my string/tone chasing. Now that Perpetuals have been out for a few years, how long are folks finding they keep them on? I switched my first set after 18 months. I’m about there with my second set, but they still seem fine to my ears.
I’ve been changing them after around 18 months of regular use. By that time they’re darker but they still have good sustain and growl, so you could probably go a while longer if you don’t mind a darker sound.

try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol. Tune the string down about 2 whole steps so it’s floppy, take a paper towel and put a drop of rubbing alcohol on and clean the string till there’s no gunk on it. Might help.
I think I changed them after a year like I did with spiros but my current set has been on for two years next month, but I don’t play upright full time at the moment so I’m sure that helps.
Be very careful not to get any alcohol on the body of the bass as it will damage the finish.

I have/had the medium gauge G string S36 Spiral Core string - that I've just recently replaced with the Perpetual Stark for now...
So, I just put Spiro Mittel E-A and Perpetual Stark D-G on my bass, and I'm finding that the D string is significantly more dead and thuddy sounding than the others (when played pizz--it actually sounds great with the bow). Did anyone else have this experience with this particular string? Any chance it will "open up" at all? It's a pretty stark contrast right next to that brand new Spiro A, in both sound and feel.
The Spiro A will get a little darker and the stark D will open up to split the difference, imho. I ended up preferring the Spiro D, though, on my bass at least…
I do not like the stark Perps. To me they have some of what drove me away from Spiros with less of what attracted me to Perps. FWIW I'm now using Spiro Weich E, Perp A & D and Superflex solo tuned to G and I'm very happy. For now anyway.

I currently have my perps in the drawer and went back to Obligato full set. BUT, I've been thinking about going back to the perps so I'll put the bottom three on first and let you know.
I don‘t think putting a thick synthetic core G beneath a thin bright steel core D is really a good idea. They may even get more different up the fingerboard.
I think a damped steel core G beneath the Perpetual D makes more sense.
No high C string in the perpetual lineup. If I were to select a high C string that would compliment a set of perpetuals, what would the hive mind suggest?
