New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

ZZounds is expecting more Sonic Blue on the 2nd, so not too bad. Sweetwater isn't expecting any till after the holidays.
It's kind of funny, the GC near me has had the same one on the rack for over a month now.

I guess this shouldn't surprise me, but this bass doesn't thump and slap so well. It's not really my style, anyhow, it's just I was writing a bass line and this thump and slap part fit so well, but I'm having a tough time thumping with my thumb for some reason.

Based on your pics, I'm pretty convinced that your bass is Sonic Blue. Either way, I wish Fender's blue color for the Mustang was actually blue.
I'm playing my Olympic White, Mustang PJ more. It's a very playable go to bass.
Yeah, I was most impressed with the playability when I tested one out. Probably the fact that it's a short scale and I'm a shorter, smaller person. Either way, I thought the entire bass felt really connected and vibrant despite the cheaper, thinner hardware. My thing is that I know I can always install a heftier bridge and tuners for pretty cheap, so the hardware wasn't really much of a concern to me. I love upgrading basses anyway. Plus, although my primary is bass, I play guitar every other week at church, so translating from guitar to bass back to guitar and back to bass is a lot easier when the bass is scaled more similarly to a guitar. I also really dig the pickup selector switch (although it was a little scratchy, so it'll need to be replaced soon) and the versatility that comes with it. both pickups seemed really usable. I loved having the P pickup growl along with the J pickup.
Aaaaand you're right. Haha. My bad. I got the "white" part right, though.
It's really really hard to differentiate between the Olympic White and Sonic Blue. I'm with the majority of you guys, I kind of wish Fender had offered a blue that's a bit more distinguishable from the Olympic White... Maybe they'll release more colors in the future? It'd be sick if they would release some of the colors that come on the other offset guitars the announced at NAMM along with the Mustang PJ. Like the olive green or the orange or even the yellow. I'd probably snatch this guy up in Olive Green and Yellow if they offered it. But then I would have three identical basses... and that would not be good.

The Olive Green is absolutely beautiful. Almost convinced myself to try to play guitar again.
No doubt. If they offered it it would be a tough decision for me between the white and the olive green. I just have a thing for white with gold pickguard though...
My daughter plays guitar and we got her the olive Mustang for xmas. I hope they offer the PJ in olive with a maple neck in the future.
That would be gorgeous, man. I'd honestly have a hard time not pulling the trigger on an olive green, maple neck if it came out even though I already have a Mustang PJ.
I used to have a MIJ and sold it a feew months ago; regrettably. How does the new one compare tonally? And does it have the same amount of neck dive as the MIJ? I played a new one at a shop yesterday, but obviously couldn't A/B it with the reissue. Seemed like the head stock was a thinner cut of wood and the pickups were not as clear or punchy. This right?

Have just bought one of these basses in sonic blue, Fenders website says the strings on these are 105-45 gauge,i was sceptical as Fender do not make short scale strings in this gauge but they do look heavier than the 95-40 that there short scale set comes in and they do actually look like a long scale set that has been cut to fit a short scale bass so i guess they must be 105-45, anyone able to confirm ?

I can't confirm it, but they looked cut down to me also. I ordered a set of DR Highbeam Short Scale for mine, they sound great on my other two basses.
The set up was really good, perfect action IMO. However I expect the neck to need a truss adjustment here in a few days to a week or so. Usually I've found the weather makes the wood adjust some. Although I won't have to adjust the saddles so that's nice.
That's what I was thinking too. Which, if true, means they sent me the wrong one since I ordered one in sonic blue.
The white one though seems to match the pick-guard more in the pictures I've seen. Like, you can tell the color difference between the body and pickguard color more on the sonic blue one.
What's odd though is that I tried one at GC that looked the same as this one, and it was listed as "in stock" only in sonic blue on their local store info.
Edit : I just checked the box and it says "MUSTANG PJ SBL". *Shrug* No idea. This is the whitest sonic blue I've ever seen if it is indeed sonic blue.
