New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

I'm lucky enough to own the Pawn Shop in White. Sick humbucker!
I got a Jaguar SS to mess around on but had to get rid of it. Not string through on it like my PS Mustang. You can't seem to get the good break angle on the low E for a tight sound even after adding heavier strings and jamming a metal rod in the bridge to force more of an angle. This PJ mustang seems to have lifted the bridge and possible the same pups from that Jag SS and prob will suffer as such.
I didn't want waste time and effort to mod the Jag but I would mod this. Before it came out I was specing a a Warmoth if I was to get dirty but the PJ seems like a good platform now that it's here. String through, new slightly heavier strings (got a recomendation from just strings.com) and see where the pups are at. The jag was predictable with the jazz pup as a added flavor but not pulling the ship.
The Pawn shop mustang is a perfectly unapologetic and unique beast. certainly given the extra bucks to mod the PJ to get it competitive. And a placid blue racing stripe... please.

If i did get a P/J i think I would have to make those mods knowing the difference string through makes on these 30" scale as evident in the Pawn Shop model vs the SS Jag. I wouldn't bother modifying a SS jag now that the P/J is here. The Jag body is just not a resonant tone wood for bass and it will always haunt it. The P/J looks like a great spot to start but be honest about that low E. String through should be a drill press and some ferrels away. I got my used PS for about $400 and it's perfect save a string swap. That was a tricky tricky find and they now go for around $800+ used. So the PJ is more in reach and a great bass no doubt. I'll never not have a Mustang kicking around so get on board. Just glad mines the PS.
I've got a string through MIJ Mustang re-issue w/flats,
and a new P/J Mustang.
The new one with a traditional bridge has more sustain.
I like them both.

I just played one of these at GC. I was impressed.
It looked like they just got it in, so it still had the factory set up. It was set up well, good low action and no fret buzz.
The quality of the build was quite impressive. For 550 bucks it looked like a great value. Nothing was cheap.
I actually liked the pickups. The P pickup was a bit muddier than I'm used to on a long-scale but I suppose that's to be expected. What suprised me a lot was the bridge pickup. It had a great sound solo'd, very punchy and not overbright. It felt like it had some low-end to it as well, although the P pickup overpowered it a bit.
If I got this bass I'd try lowering the neck pickup some to balance it out. I could see using all three settings on that pickup switch if the bass didn't feel like it lost low-end when I switched over to the bridge pickup. I think matching volume a bit closer would take care of it, as the bridge pickup itself sounded like it had a decent bottom-end.
The pickups both had a great sound though. That's my take away. I am not sure I'd replace them. The only mod I'd consider is swapping the tone cap out for a lighter treble cut.

I just bought one. I fell in love at the store. It's getting shipped to me. Can't wait.
I have one on order as well. Got it on the Black Friday 20% off deal. $440 for a bass that plays and sounds as great as these things do almost makes me feel bad, hahaha. I can't wait to get my hands on it, though. They ended up being back ordered though, so there's no telling when I'll actually get it. Anyone know of a way to check on that?

I did the same thing. 440 for mine.
That 20% off GC and MF deal was great. You just had to log in to your account and it was a special in-cart discount on every Fender product.
I would have bought the one I played in the store, but I ended up getting Zzounds to price match and then took advantage of the no-interest payment plan. They never checked my credit the last 4 times so it seemed like a win-win. Use someone else's money for a few months, and I always pay it off before using more debt for instruments.
I bought a set of La Bella Beatle Bass flats and they sound and feel fantastic. I got one of the sonic blue versions and I'm really happy with it. The rosewood is pretty grainy on the sides and some of the frets have a space below them on the side, but this does not effect playability or tone. Really dig this bass.
I bought this one for the Mustang PJ that's on it's way to me. I have one of these for my Telecaster and it's never let me down. Granted, you probably wouldn't want to fly with it, but it'll definitely do a great job just taking it from home to gig. Plus it won't break the bank at all. Might be worth a look, but if not, no worries.
