New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

Yeah, that was smart, man. I hadn't even thought about getting someone to price match. Let me know how you like it. I'll live vicariously through you until I get mine off of back order! Haha.

I had to find the right color for it to work. It was in stock at MusiciansFriend but not at GuitarCenter. ZZounds wouldn't match anything but the white model at GC since it was the only one in stock.

I really wanted the Torino Red one, but I settled for the Sonic Blue since it was my second favorite color. I am kinda thinking I might buy another one of these later so I'll reserve the Torino for then. I was thinking either defretting for a fretless or keeping one on the side strung with flats or something.

I just really liked the tone of the pickups on this form factor. Something about it. The 3-way switch had a useable tone in every setting when I was playing around with one at a physical GC location. I'm used to PJs having a useless bridge tone except for when blending in with the P, which was not the case for this Mustang.

Just tried the price-match option at AMS, they sent an email saying it was approved for 549.99. Lol!!! So I did the same for ZZ Rounds and they said they would beat the GC price at $435.59. They approved the 6 payment option, but they don't have any Sonic Blue in until the 5th. I really can't complain. Lol!

I got the last one! That was the only one I could get them to approve as well. One was left when I ordered.

Love zzounds for their payment option. I buy a lot through them.

Mine just fits into a Mono guitar sleeve too.

Tell me about this if you would... I have a Mustang MIJ Reissue with a total length of just under 42". When I was looking (all over) for a gig bag I checked the mono guitar sleeve (love MONO stuff) and the specs state a total internal length of 41". I figured even if I could squeeze it in there it wouldn't be a safe fit. Do the new Mustang P/Js have similar dimensions to the MIJ Reissues? Does it feel like a comfortable fit for yours? Thanks.

I'm sure this has come up somewhere in the 29 pages of this thread, so my apologies ahead of time. My question is about string choice. I put D'addario chromes on my Fender P and really like them a lot. Would the short scale version (see link) of them be a good choice? Opinions vary, but I'm just looking for the general consensus.

Well, I missed it. I had the red P/J Mustang in the cart at least four times yesterday,
and decided I'd better sleep on it before getting another one.
Checked this morning and the deal is gone.
Oh well, maybe next year, if I still like it as much by then.

About the strings - I use that type in medium length for my string thru body Mustang.
I like them.

Guitar Center still has the same deal for the rest of the day, I was able to get it price matched through ZZ rounds for a $435.59 with a payment option on top of that. Definitely check again.

The Torino Red would've been my second choice, for sure. I actually went with Arctic White! I agree that the Sonic Blue and Arctic white are SUPER similar. I have a thing for arctic white though as I have a Telecaster at home in Arctic White with a maple fretboard and a gold pickguard. I think it looks amazing. I plan on getting a gold pickguard for the Mustang PJ too whenever I can find a place that sells Mustang pickguards with traditional P cutouts. All of the ones I've seen only offer with the regular Mustang P pickup. If anyone knows where I can find one to fit the Mustang PJ in gold send me a link!

I might actually check with ZZ Sounds if they're still doing the price match! thing is, I bought mine through GC when the Black Friday sale was going on, and when I bought it it said the Artic White one was in stock. After I bought it they sent me an email saying it was backordered. So, I kind of got the shaft from ole GC... I may use that as justifiable cause to get a retroactive price match from Sweetwater or ZZ Sounds.

I'll try to take a picture tonight. It fits fine until I get the zippers to the tuning paddles. It's just a little bit snug. I'll check again tonight. If I remember, it wasn't really an issue.

You're right. Yesterday it said "Add to cart for special pricing" or something like that.
It doesn't say that now, but it's still the sale price if you add it to the cart.
White and Blue are in stock, Red is back ordered though:

ZZ Rounds were great, they even price matched the short scale gig bag by $5 too. AMS is a little harder to deal with, it's been twice now they denied me a price match. As far as GC is concerned, I try to avoid them as much as possible.

I had no intention of picking one up till next year, but who could pass on that offer?
