Just listened to The Getaway for the first time.
I almost feel like this is a RHCP April Fools joke.
If I knew the names of their songs from Californication on up, I'd be able to pick out the songs you could lay this on top of that would match up almost perfectly with phrasing, melody, guitar rhythms, etc. It sounds soooooo uninspired and lacking in anything to me. Anthony sounds like he's falling asleep while singing it, drums sound like a beat box (are they?), bass my wife could play (she doesn't play any musical instrument)... and it's not even as though it's beautiful, or heartfelt in it's simplicity. If an unknown band recorded this, it would get 25 hits on youtube.
Maybe they were shooting for a tune that any teenage band could easily cover? I'm dumbfounded.
Still going to buy the album when it comes out, with a prayer that there's a glimmer of life and hope left for these guys. I miss them.

LOL... went searching for reviews of the new stuff and came across a link that said More NEW RHCP.
I thought for a second, ok.... maybe, just maybe, there's a wee glimmer of hope for these guys still. Then I checked the date :/. I never heard this song. Or maybe I did, and forgot. I bought their last album, but only listened to it for about a week. Anyhow. From 2013, still a step up from this newer stuff.

I've started listening to that new album and here are my thoughts.
The new album has MORE MUSIC
and much much less aggressiveness 
(d.....- induced stubbornness and lacks some elements of grunge).
(Maybe the age is responsible for it

I really like Flea's staunchly PRO bass-lines.
The album, overall, is more MELODIOUS than a "standard" RHCP album.
Some songs - melodies, harmonies - remind me of songs - Sick Love, etc... - from the past, but I'm not going to get into the "copyright" issues.
Once again, the album is more Melodious, has more Music with less grunge aggressiveness.
Flea's bass-lines are VERY melodious, interesting, and strongly PRO with a lot of signs of bass-lines from the 70's, 80's.
"Detroit" and "The Ticonderoga" - probably is the closest to "average" RHCP.
In short - I like it, but I've aged along with RHCP.

I couldn't agree more, this is a hugely dissipating attempt at a Chili Peppers album & songs. When I first heard it I thought it was someone trolling. That couldn't be the Chili Peppers. Then I realized it was.
I honestly think that this is a better song than "Dark Necessities" (actually, better than anything on the album).
What makes it superior t anything on the new album? It's funny, doesn;t take itself seriously, and the drums don't sound like a hiphop pop album. Yes, it's an amusing joke, but it's better than the joke that the new stuff RHCP are selling.
RHCP are done as far as I'm concerned.

Just in one place, Flea plays one note - D# instead of a usual natural D - with the Em7 chord during his bass fill.
It happens only ONE time - at 2:23 in the song.
