New Rickenbacker 4004 cii

Could someone please elaborate?
How are these ergonomically different to the 4001-3 ?
How do neck profiles compare?
No binding anywhere,a great bridge, lighter contoured body, super quiet but powerful humbuckers. Overall the sleekest, best -feeling of the 4000 series, imo,of course.
Neck profiles are so all over the map on both the 4003 and 4004 series, you really have to just check them out individually. The older 4004 models's necks were definitlely wider, chunkier, but the latest 2 piece necks are the same on the 4003 and the 4004.

I was about to say what some others have said about making this a 5 string but I did look at the link and I think it will look good but still not sure about the function. The neck just seems to narrow for this. The strings look like they will drop off the sides. Post some pic's after the conversion. Do you play mainly with a pick? The strings being so close make it look hard to play any other way. Good looking bass and I like your thinking in that these are tools to make music.

Hi,Jeff,if it's not already too late, could you post a sound sample of the bass with the tapewound strings?
Pretty Please?:)
Played with a pick....

Will do that ...

Right now the bass is still all original except for the Vol, Vol, Tone mod which is 100% reversable. I will leave it this way for a while until I decide what I want to do with this bass. I may modify it or I might possibly resell it here on talkbass. I have 2 really good 4004 5 string basses and there is a fireglo 4004L that I have my eye on and want to mod with 2 toaster pickups.

But I will post some sound bytes ... also I will probably tune it DGCF for awhile.

Nope ... But it is very similar ... except this one has a better neck. Also it is 12 years old and it was actually played. It wasn't stuck in the case and worshipped by a collector. This one has some miles on it but it was also taken care of.

nice find, either way. always wanted one of these but very rarily do lefties pop up, and they're usually at a premium. last one i saw on ebay they wanted $4,500. i do want one, but not that bad.

He's converted several 4003 and 4004 basses already. I guess he doesn't mind the narrow spacing.

My 2 4004 conversions have a 2 1/2" string spacing B to G at the bridge. I know some people prefer 2 3/4" to 3".

I Finally got that sample to run,had to download a different media player on my ipad...that's a very cool sound, and you certainly played some appropriate tunes for the tapewounds. To me ,they sound very different from flatwound strings. That could be my backup plan if my maxima flatwounds ever break,i could replace them with a set of tapes on my Cii.
Thanks for sharing that,Jeff!
