New rig based around my Warwick 6x10"

Hi all,

Having recently thrown in my lead guitarist cards and moved onto bass full time, I thought I might like to upgrade my rig a little....

I currently play a decent Jazz copy into a cheap Ashdown Mag 300 head and Warwick 6x10" cab.

I'm after a nice growly modern rock tone, and of course, i would love an Ampeg SVT. Money is not necessarily an issue, but the thought of having 14 tubes to worry about definitely is!

I have looked at a few Trace Elliot SMX heads (dual compressor) and quite like those with the input set to all-tube and the gain wound up. I don't know if you'd call it an SVT tone, but I like it.

And then, on the other hand, there is the Sansamp VT and VTD pedals which seem to get excellent reviews here. Might I be better off finding a good, light power amp (that will bridge into 6ohms) and going down that route?

Oh, I dunno... Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,

Jim

Thinking about it a little more, I'm favouring the Sansamp route.

We're an originals band and a lot of the venues we play have their own PA and don't really require much backline.

I was thinking that the VT-Power amp-Warwick 610 setup would give me acceptable SVT sounds, but for some gigs I could just take the pedal and DI straight into the PA system.

Is there anyone out there gigging with a similar rig?

Jim
