Totally agree. Whatever rack meets your requirements is the right one. For my use it looks like the new SKB Shallow 2RU should work for the De-Monique and provide good access to its output speakons.
I think you're right on that point. It's essential to have enough free space to shove in the connecting cables, etc. That's where the older design is "flawed" but as noted, what is a flaw for some is beneficial for others. When it comes to hauling gear, I use the "balloon strategy" where everything nonessential goes over the side. As for your DeMonique, it's not just the speakons; the old design also blocks clear access to the AC power socket. I think you'll be fine with the new model. As a fallback, the new shallow model from Gator is also in the same ballpark as the new SKU shallow.
