New speaker for Peavey 1516 cab

Got an old Peavey 1516 cab for free but the 15 is blown. A new Black Widow would run me $140 but I've got a couple brand new Eminence Beta 15 300 watt speakers lying around. The problem is the BW in the Peavey is 4 ohms and these Eminence I've got are 8 ohm. Would it be a big deal to use on of the Eminence speakers anyway? Would I have to also change out the 8" speakers or would the slight mismatch be OK?

What's the impedance of the 8" speakers?
You might be able to just rewire the cab and still have the ohms come out workable (though it might change the overall impedance)

The 8s are not marked in any way. The cabinet says it is a 4ohm cab which I thought was wierd anyway because it has a 4 ohm 15 and pair of 8s. I'm not sure how it would be wired up to achieve a 4 ohm load with all 3 speakers. Doesn't make sense to me. It's possible that 4 ohm rating means 4 ohms for the low end and 4 ohms for the high end when running this cab bi-amped. If that's the case then I have no idea what it is when run full range.

$140 is crazy price for that basket. I buy my black widow 18" baskets for $75... You need to look into what you are getting. Do not buy the whole speaker. With Peavey, there are 3 screws on the magnet and you pull the basket off. Put the new one on and you are golden. Your speaker basket should be something like a 1502-4 BW. Found some new ones on e-bay for $85. I am sure you probably could get it from a bigger dealer in your area for the same if not less.

I actually have a local dealer that is a really large Peavey dealer. I have been going there for years and I trust them. If it were a GC, I would never trust them. Parts Express are good general dealers, but definately do not offer the best discounts from list. If you have a local dealer great. If not, check out Uncle Bob's music in Milwaukee, WI. I am sure they would ship your speaker baskets.
