I've never been able to get into Radiohead, but even when I tried - at the persistent urging of others -I don't recall anything noteworthy about the bass lines, which might explain why i can't get into them.

Maybe you can link me to a song or two that is an example of his bass work that would either A) help change my mind about the band or B) make him worthy of a signature bass?

Maybe with some of the sig models they're trying to sell cult-of-personality, not always based on how profound or savvy their playing is. They made one for Wentz then why not for Adam Clayton or Greenwood or whomever. I just want more Squier models in imitation of their more expensive cousins on the Fender site really.

But to answer your question, "Lotus Flower," "How To Disappear Completely" are some nice simple bass parts no big deal, just lines I like. I like them as a whole. Separate the parts and they don't stand alone.

Thanks, I'll check out those songs. I think for me it's mostly Yorke's voice and the moody sort of sounds they experiment with.

I get where you're coming from with Wentz and such... these guys weren't really recognized for their bass playing as much as they were in cool bands, which would easily apply in this case - especially with how big and/or influential Radiohead got. For a sig bass, I'd prefer to see something more than just a modified color combo with some little sticker or logo somewhere. With a Steve Harris you get the BAII, SD pups, blue sparkle and chrome plated cover, for example - truly a signature combination and truly a player recognized for his style and skill independent of how big the band is.

I get what you mean. Fender can only do so much I guess. If they want to sell more basses just make twins of everything--for every expensive Fender USA or MIJ, make an inexpensive Squier MIC. MIM can stay.

Totally agree on Esperanza - I could watch that White House clip of Tell Him about 20 times in a row. Her fretless is pretty much a Jaco, no?

Definitely wise to promote a female bassist, but it might actually be more about feel-good promotion than actual dollars earned. Many more males in the game to begin with, and who may not want to own a "female's" sig bass for one, but even among female bassists the number of fretless players has to be fairly small.

Kind of like Joan Jett and her white Gibson Melody Maker... make that a JJ sig instrument and you might actually hurt the sales that could otherwise go to men. Or maybe I'm wrong?

Make a sick Esperanza model maybe a little more affordable than the Jaco (looks like she plays a Jaco) like you said, they'd have to change it up to make it worthwhile & noticeable difference: different pickups, unlined fretless, maybe do it MIJ & shave off $1K. Or unlike the VMJ lined fretless. More colors? SOMEthing.

No that I'm hip to every new player, but I always find it funny when companies release a signature model of someone I've never heard of. Used to be that the signature models were done for the legendary players who have been around for a very long time. Also, how many things can you do to a P-Bass anyway at this point. Seems like these signature models rarely break any new ground.
