New Squier CV Option No Side Dots??

So i happened by a large music store down south of here and was mainly looking for some 5 string Music Man basses which they didn't have and was checking out an amp and comparing the different versions of jazz bass to see the differences and picked up a Squier Classic Vibe (because they usually rock)


So I'm playing and look at the side of the fretboard and...

No side dots! Played and sounded fine but this was a first for me. So I brought it to my friendly sales associates attention. He looked, asked if it was a Classic Vibe? I said yes and he replied. "It's supposed to be a remake of a classic bass and some of them didn't have side dots most people look at the front of the fretboard anyway" really? I said :eyebrow:. I had never seen this before and I've played a few basses.

So has anyone else ever seen this?

I haven't ever seen a cv without side dots. Really don't think I've seen any bass without side dots. As for most looking at the front, I have to disagree. I see a lot of basses without front inlays but they still have side dots. Most people in my experience don't use the front inlays. Too awkward.

Typical store BS policy - tell a lie about a flawed product. I f****ng hate it when they do that and they do that A LOT. They lied to me about a friggin adapter with "movable pins", until I contacted the developers (it's One Spot btw), and they sent me a new one without "movable pins".
Man that sort of thing really grinds my gears!

His point was you could just install factory style dots (because this is just a feature of the bass). Fine for most of us TB'ers. But how many people in the market for a $350 bass buying from a major chain is going to want or have the know how to do this?

Salesman was full of it, of course.

I wonder if it was a one-off mistake or if a whole batch left the factory without dots?

I always thought I relied on the front dots until I bought an acoustic guitar with no front dots. It took me zero time to adjust, which means I had been using the side dots all along without realizing it.

I went to try out the Squier VM Jaguar at a local Guitar Center a few weeks ago. One of the knobs had been ripped off, and the sales associate tried to convince me it was a "new feature." :rollno:

I've never seen any of the CVs without the side dots, though.

That rules! Next he'll be telling people that their beat to death basses are new Relic models. Sounds like he found his calling.... sales.
