I spoke with my local Long & McQuade salesman yesterday. He fired off an email to our Fender rep. I should hopefully know by next week when these are launching in Canada and the prices. ^_^

*EDIT*: He just got back to me. At this time, these are European market only. :( BUMMER! I want that Jag-5!

Bummer. I do a lot of international business in Europe (sourcing, manufacturing, and logistics) so I might have to sneak one into the US.

I must have that Jag 5!

Now, the hardest part is to be able to decide between OlyW P5 and Sunburst P5 :(
Both kinda look perfect :D

I have one spare P5 pickup laying around, I feel already the temptation to mod this P5 into a double P5! Now how's that!

I decided I couldn't wait. I got a "scratch and dent" Squier VM Fretless Jazz and put the neck on a VM Precision body from eBay:

Ah dude that's what I'm after...I don't really need to have the jazz neck but whatever.

The Jazz neck works well for me (scrawny, abused fingers with 35 years of auto mechanic experience).

I wouldn't have done it if I had to buy 2 complete basses. Who would want a J body with a P neck?

I think a Squier P fretless would sell very well in the US. I hope Fender decides to offer them here before long.

I was looking at the specs of this bass on Musicians Friend and it said the body was soft maple, okay soft maple sounds to me like the maple body might not be fully dried out.....Anybody?

i have one too...great bass for the money...and it is way lighter that then VM Jazz i picked up recently

only upgrade i think the bass needs is a new bridge...the stock one just sucks

No, it's not really "soft" per se, it's just a designation for a particular maple wood species to differentiate it from hard rock maple such as what usually found in necks. It's called soft because it's not as dense or heavy as hard rock. It has nothing to do with how "wet" or "dry" the wood is. It's a perfectly fine wood for a bass body.

Meh, I like the bridge just fine. It's very stable and works just the way it's supposed to. Unless it breaks, I'm never going to swap it out.

They use the same bridge on the VM Jaguars. Mine hasn't given me any trouble. It's not high mass, but I don't care for high mass bridges (too much sustain).

I used the "soft maple" VM P body to build my fretless. No sign of sap or moisture in the neck pocket. I haven't weighed it but it doesn't seem too heavy at all. The wood is harder than basswood or agathis. I noticed that when I installed the strap lock screws.
