new Squier??

Squier is starting to be as bad, or worse a GAS pain problem as SX is! That blue P bass is killer looking! I bet Squier will fast gain ground if they keep doing this!

For some:eyebrow: The new Squires sure look perturty, I really like the colors. But, upon closer inspection that's really all they have to offer-- cool colors.

Unless you are a beginner, and that applies to the esSeX instruments also. Who's claim to fame is they make neck and color combinations you wish Fender made at an affordable price. Are they decent basses--yess, for beginners---yes. Sorry, they just don't have the feel, refinements, finish or quality of a professional caliber instrument.

Now this is not 'trolling', its just how I feel. Squire do not make good basses. They make affordable, beginner instruments, but thats it. I have had a few, and the sound is totally transformed by adding even a £12 EMG Select pickup. As a guitar tech, everything about them is made to look like a Fender, but is not like a Fender.

The actual construction techniques are different. Other than the general wood types, the materials are different. When it comes to woods, the quality is different.

Please do not think that a Squire is a Fender, as it is as much of a Fender as a 'Vintage' or any other low end model is a Fender.

As I said, this is not slanging off Squire, it is stating a point based upon their design (and I am a professional designer).

I don't know, I own two Squiers -- Precision 5'er and Jazz VM Fretless and both are real players. Sure their quality isn't the same as my MIA and Custom Shop Fenders but they're plenty sturdy and play and sound good enough for anyone really. Modern manufacturnig makes this possible, "cheap" isn't what it used to be.

I don't think anyone said they were Fenders...??

I have the VM fretless, as well as a new 2008 MIA P bass. There is definitely a *big* difference in construction and materials quality between the two, but the Squier is a decent bass, and I'm sure these new ones will also be pretty decent. They were both absolutely worth their respective selling prices. If I had had access to *beginner* quality basses like these new Squiers when I was a beginner, I'd have been a happy teenager - they're miles ahead of what passed for beginner instruments back in the 80s, which were typically plywood, necks like hockey sticks, cheapest electronics available, and "vampire finishes" - they chipped when they were exposed to sunlight. As it is, I gig with both my Squier and my Fender. I don't think this thread is about comparing Fenders with Squiers, because c'mon, let's get real. However, the quality of a Fender does not take away from the *value* offered by a Squier.

Everything you said here is true......but I think the point is cool guitars for the price.
