Greetings, first post here. I recently traded in an old Westbury (along with some other stuff and some cash) that I have been using for gigging and home recording for about 20 years, on this used MIA Music Man Sterling.
I was looking at a lot of different options, and many thanks to doing some lurking here at TalkBass to sift through some info that really helped me make the decision.
I am primarily a guitar player, but have always played bass as well, including as my main musical activity in a pop/folk/rock band for a couple of years. I had put EMG's in the Westbury, and while it sounded decent, I never loved it. Years ago I sold my bass amp, which was a big Peavey stack, also not my favorite sound, really. I decided to spring for a used SWR Workinmans 15, 160/200 watt combo, which sounds huge and warm, because I missed hearing the bass sound in the room (vs. through phones from the mixing board). I am very happy with my new rig.
This bass guitar happens to have a stock factory installed drop D tuner (think it's called a 'hipshot'). Doubt I'll ever use it, but hey, you never know.
