new strat bass anyone??!

Wow, are those nice or something? It looks like a child's bass, but then I saw the price tag...:scowl:
I had a guy build me something like this many years ago. J body, J neck, three J p'ups like a strat. It was kinda cool but didn't stick, if you follow.
can't really tell.. all i knew is that it was "different".
not exactly sure what to make of it
I didn't think I'd like a bass with 3 single coils until I heard Bass Central's demo of the MusicMan Big Al.
Something about that cream though............

I think I had built my bass incorrectly - as in, the wrong guts, so it sounded harsh: EMG p'ups, swamp ash body, ebony fretboard...
Were I to do it again, I'd do it passive, just like a Strat, with say three SD quarter pounders , alder body, maple fretboard... And a strat-type selector switch.
It's an attractive bass. Too bad it isn't medium scale. Landing makes many basses similar to this that are medium- and short-scale.
that's just the picture; in person, it's a big, fat full-size instrument.
a rep showed me one a while back, and i thought it was pretty nice, if a little unusual. it seemed a good bass for that kind of money.

i don't think any of the tones but the middle pickup sound good in that video. all of the others are too phasy sounding to me. while the phasy sound works great on a strat, judging by the video, it just doesn't work for me on a bass.
Unlike 90% of what's offered for sale these days, the Godin in made in Canada...not China. (According to the lettering on the headstock) So the higher price is understandable, as it's not assembled by workers making $3 a month.
Agree about the basswood, however. For $900 I'd expect a higher quality body wood.
For you folks complaining about the Basswood body.
What about the MusicMan Bongo? (Granted the shape isn't for me, but I won't deny it is a quality instrument).
(The MusicMan Bongo also sells for about twice the price of that Strat bass).

Yup, I don't knock basswood anymore after playing a Bongo and those new Sterling series basses.
The Godin looks pretty cool, and the sound - from what I could tell in that clip - was good. But man, they have a LOT of competition at that 900 dollar price range.
