i saw a brand of string on amazon i hadn't seen before - alice

they had hex core regular tension strings, and they had extra lights. i emailed to ask about the extra light core, and they told me they were round core, so i pulled the trigger.
i don't feel the string packaging screamed "serious bass strings", but the graphics seem to be indicating these might be the best strings for metal
the individual string packages don't have the gauges on them, but it's easy to figure out. maybe beginners might want to see E, A, D, G on the packs for guidance.
my husband put the strings on one of my basses today (thanks, honey!). i was replacing a set of d'addario super light nickels, the regular set, not the balanced set. the alice E string is lower tension, and since i prefer low tension due to physical issues, i love that. the rest of the string are about the same tension as the d'addarios. my husband says the wraps just above the ball ends are looser than he's seen before, but so far it doens't seem to affect anything,
the bass i put the strings on is my cheapest long-scale - an ibanez GSR100EX with the stock pickup. so far, the bass sounds great with the new strings played through my TC head and phil jones cab, lots of smooth bass with some appealing highs (i usually keep the mids turned down) that had me playing for a long time. i dislike the zingy sound of new strings, so i'm happy these strings don't have that new string sound - so far, they're pretty mellow and bassy with my current settings and feel good to play, although if you like higher tension strings, they'd seem mushy. tomorrow i'll try the bass with the mids up, and then through my rumble combo.
hopefully they'll be broken in in a week, and then i'll record short samples through both amps.
