I have to say I'm pretty proud of my wraps. I do take a scientific approach to it by actually measuring the length (12 cm from the middle of the post) but hey, I do it the same way when setting up the action.

New string set-up poll - Not enough wraps or it is fine?

Dead thread resurrect. The only other time on TB I have seen a new, out-of-the-box bass with so few wraps was on a very cheap Chinese bass. I have a suspicion that some company makes "new bass" strings to length that way in order to (a) save a small amount on material costs and (b) preclude the bass manufacturer from even having to cut the string to length.
