Funny this should come up now. I changed my Super Silvers for new ones about two years ago and immediately got a buzz (I thought of it more as a rattle) on the A string. I shimmed the string under the nut, I rewound it... nothing helped. If I plucked perfectly sideways I could avoid the rattle but I never had to do that before. Tolerated it through the pandemic. Finally last week I took the bass over to Fretwell where I had bought the strings, and it turned out to be a bad string. He didn't have a new set but he had a few good take-offs lying around and swapping out that string eliminated the problem. Now I can't get it to rattle no matter what I do. Super happy.
He (Travis; he and his wife bought the business from the Fretwells) mentioned how the strings had been unavailable for a while around the time I bought them and how Innovation was bought by GHS and the production moved. Could have been a QC problem related to that.
