New strings, now what?

Hey TB brethren: Does anyone know if there is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of used strings?

Believe it or not there is a market for used flats... I used to make fishing leaders with my lighter gauge guitar strings. My hard scrabble uncle wanted those too. I think he made snares.

I have this 30 gallon steel trash can I fill up with odds and ends (scrap metals) and take it to the scrap yard, you name it, if it's metal it goes in there. One load was $70, but it's usually $30 or so. Old appliances go to the scrap yard as well... that's country livin' for you, it pays for art supplies.

After you said to post a pic I wasn't really sure it's industrial. It's a bunch of crazy flowers and a third of an oil tank. A mig welder and some jazz cabbage was all I needed to make that mess.
