Sounds great on paper, anyone played one?

I'm with ya 100% here. Really cool design though....you could have a headlite and an amplite side-by-side in 1-rack space, giving you 800 watts into 2 ohms. VERY modular.

definitely one of the prettier micro heads. it's no micro-av, but has a good look. if you look at it from the front, that is. if you look at it from the top it's got this big giant swr logo. that i could do without.

How much are these? It seems you have to get the amp and the preamp for the best tonal possibilities. Just curious what this will cost. And you still need a cabinet, which won't way 6 pounds

from what I understand there is a 400watt amp built in with the pre and then you can get an additional 400watt poweramp to go with it...

Looks pretty cool. I'd be more interested in the AMPlite for the pre + power options, but I'll definitely try out the headlite when they hit stores (just for kicks).

Just wondering why they stopped at 400w instead of the standard 500w micro-head configs??

I'm not sure the modular approach (having to add another gizmo for another 400 watts) makes sense; looks like a late-to-the-party GB 3.0 with a tube, a third more power and an option to add another one to double the power. IMO absolutely zero advantage over many other li'l options out there. I'll stick with my Shuttle 9.0

I was waiting for swr to come out with something, and this is what they come out with?

For the price either the shuttle 9 or the carvin bx500 look like the best options.

amplite: 549$ street price

pros: nice design amd excellent versatility for the size, solid SWR tone

cons: front panel is a little cluttered although this comes with territory

Personnally i see it as a combo.

the headlite + amplite (800watts) together are still in the SWR normal amp pricing but a lot more power and so much lighter...

Modular but otherwise with considerably fewer features than a Shuttlemax 12 and no significant power difference (25 more watts per side) for signifiicantly more money. Fail.

Hardly ...if the "SWR tone" is what your after. I, for one, do not get immediately turned on by the GB tone. Great stuff. Just takes me awhile to get warmed up to it. Many of us would rather not have a minefield of knobs, and prefer simplicity & elegance; quality over quantity.

What interests me here is grabbing one of the power amps for a 1u unit with a 1/2 rack preamp

Imagine one of the amplites with say a 1/2 rack modded version of a VT bass pedal. I bet that'd be quite nifty for a 1u bass amp weighing in at 7lbs or so

I think i'll stick w/ my LMII but the power amp does look like it might have a niche...If I were looking to build a rack a one space amp might be appealing.

Your right about it being cool if it provides a tone you seek, I was juss bein' snarky. However, I can't agree there's any SWR edge in quality over GB or Markbass.
