Actually picked up this used Dub King on Thursday but have been pretty busy. I got it mostly because it matches the Club King guitar the guitarist uses in one of my bands. It also has 2+2 tuners (don't much care for non-Fender 4 on a side configs), a set neck, and a spiffy matching hard case.
It was a bit of a bear to set up (crusty bridge screws). I had to mess with the nut, recut the "E" and "A" slots. Was getting that weird overtone thing on the open strings. I tried a couple of string sets and wound up using a leftover no name RW set. Feels like a 40-100 set, a bit light.

It's a keeper, at least for now.

Questions for the hive mind: If you own one, what do you string it with? I will be using it for roots rock/rockabilly/old school rock and roll (think Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins). Any set up tips are welcome! Also, I've never seen one in cream with a black pickguard. Reverend s/n lookup was vague. Any ideas on its vintage?

One last very important thing: When I was considering this purchase I was aware the truss rod cover was missing. I contacted Reverend about a replacement and quickly received an email from Tim Korenich at Reverend asking for my address. He sent a replacement cover and screws, N/C, before I even bought the bass! Wow! Now that's some first rate customer service! Thanks, Tim!

Greetings from the North,

A fresh new set of LaBella Flats. Yup I said it. They're more musical than you might think. For the direction you're going in the LaBella's will bounce the bootey and fill the dance floor. Depending on the gauge you may have to adjust the nut but it's well be worth it.

And that is one awesome looking Reverend!

D'Addario black tapewounds...perfect tension, very nice tone and they look great!

I love my Dub. Purchased used in not so good condition. I know enough to bring a bass back to life. I also added some custom knobs and lollipop tuners. I'm using DR Pure Blues strings on this bass and I love the sound. The strings are 45-105 regular scale, and they work without any issue.

I have the Linhbacker, which is the same thing but with a sparkly purple paintjob, and i LOVE it.
I have GHS Balanced Nickels on mine now, but it’s about to get BriteFlats as i’ve got rounds on my new Pbass.

The only quasi-downside to this bass is that using both pickups at the same time produces a huge mid-scoop that’s nigh unusable. I just use the neck pickup which sounds like a growly Pbass with a bit of a boost around 700Hz.

(I removed the pickguard)

Thanks! Do you know whether they work with through body stringing?

BBB
I have them on my Ibanez SR1350B and they are great, and flexible, but I think the tape wrap might be a little thin for the break angle at bridge if you strung through body. I can attest the LaBella LTFs work through body just fine, have them strung that way on my Sire P5R.

Curious to hear how the DK works out for you. I'm set on basses, but these keep calling me, even though I've never played one, let alone seen or heard one in person!
It has a purpose in my current music endeavors. I was skeptical about the sound but after deepening the nut slots and a string change it's really growing on me! Earmarked for an upcoming gig or two!
