Double Bass New ultralight stuff from Genz Benz

There have been rumors around for a while about new ultralight heads and combos from Genz Benz coming soon. I posted a thread in the slab amps section asking if they had anything they could release, and they posted a bit of info (see link below). Basically, they have two new heads, a 300 watt and a 600 watt (into 4 ohms), and new 1x8, 1x10, 1x12 and 2x10 Neo speaker combos built around those heads, using a bracket on top where you can easily remove the head (hard to describe ... pics in the slab thread).

The 300 watt head weighs 2.8 pounds. It's hard to tell from the pics, but judging by my NeoPak, it looks like the head has a parametric midrange control.

I'm very curious about these little things. I plug my Underwood into my Genz Benz NeoPak 3.5 head, using FDeck's HPF/Pre, and really like the sound. A tiny combo like some of this new gear could be pretty good.

Just thought some of y'all who don't normally go over to the other side might be interested ...

Yes, price is either going to make or break it with all the competition that's out right now. I guess this stuff will be shown at NAMM in January. Definitely looks interesting.

Hmmm ... I asked the question whether they had anyone play testing these things on DB. Roger (TB id Hasbeen, Genz Benz product manager), replied that I should google Nat Reeves. I hadn't heard of him, and did google him ... he's recorded with Chick Corea and Pharoah Sanders, among others. Very cool. Plus, it turns out that Roger himself was a DB performance major in college. Looks like they're keeping an eye out for the dark side, which is cool.

It also looks like you can at least buy the 10" cab separately. From the catalog:

"STL-10T (Not Shown)
We offer this compact 10” extension cabinet that can be used in conjunction with either SHUTTLE combo. The addition of this 8 ohm extension cabinet to a SHUTTLE combo will deliver 300 watts of output from this tiny rig."

If the combo weighs 18 pounds, and you take 2.75 pounds off for the head, and a bit more off for the aluminum brackets, that seems to indicate that the cab would be in the 14-15 pound range. I'm very curious to see how this little cab sounds. I think somewhere Roger (TB Hasbeen) said that Nat Reeves was really liking the 10" combo with db.

If it's a good sounding cab, it might be a nice alternative to the Wizzy 10" for those who need an ultralight cab with 8 ohm impedance (vs. the Wizzy's 4 ohm impedance). I can't wait to hear it.
