New Villex Pickups and Passive EQ

Turned out pretty good. 3.5lb Warmoth body and Stambaugh neck (#2). Plays and sounds great...will be able to report more in upcoming weeks..

I'd love to get another NVT EQ harness but that seems to be a tall order...damn shame for the bass community!

Yeah, talked to William about it. NVT is on hold until further notice...he doesn't know when or if he will resume production. All I can do is hope so.

Also having my go-to blue Jazz I've been using for years updated with reversed Villex soapbars...should have it back in about a week!:hyper:

Essentially economics. My understanding is that William has not been able to find a supplier of parts he is satisfied with (he went through several demo sets of pots for me to find detented NVT pots...AFAIK, he only set he ever made) at a price point that is economically feasible.

I love smaller companies like Villex and Thunderfunk because they can really try different approaches (I endorse his amp for a reason) but sometimes it's tough for a smaller operation to make certain things happen.

Marcus, from what you can see on the pots included with your NVT system, do you think it would be possible to use several toggle switches instead of pots, in order to get selectable levels of "boost" on each of the 3 frequency bands? I know this wouldn't give you the same level of control, but at least it gets part of the way there.

I'm interested in getting some Villex NVT pickups for one of my basses, but I'm concerned that the lack of suitable pots is going to hold back these pickups from the market. Would switches work instead?

For the record, I currently have one fretless 5-string bass with a pair of Villex pickups from 2007 (the "Classic" line) in EMG40 soapbar shapes. They sound amazing.

Thanks for the tip! I just spoke with William and placed my order for one NVT harness plus a pair of pickups. William has ONE harness that has not been reserved yet. If anyone else is interested, I suggest you e-mail or call to reserve ASAP. :)

This will be my second NVT-equipped bass and I'm pretty stoked. The one I have now; I get compliments regularly on the tone and from people who have never made such comments to me before.

I especially like the more-or-less "active" style of blending where the pickups can actually be blended instead of the volume knobs acting almost like on/off switches.

A question pr two for Fullrange - Does Villex make a drop-in replacement for the Dingwall FD-3 pickups? Can you use the original mounting screws as well (my bass has threaded inserts installed for the pickup mounting screws)?

As an old Pbass player, I would love to find a little more thump for my Afterburner I. Would the Villex system move it sonically in that direction?

Villex pickups of the FD-3 size come with 3 screws. You need to order a set of 3-4 screws with brass inserts to have the Villex pickups fit the bass perfectly. It's a mod that it's only visible once you remove the pickups. And yes, the Villex pickups will give you that P direction plus much much more. But best thing is to contact Mr Villex

fwiw I special ordered a 7" long pickup for a bass I was building. Mr. Villex had it made and shipped within a week, faster than he promised. Sounds great too. My other favorite pup is an Alumitone P, which I found out he's responsible for only after installing and loving it. Can you tell I'm a fan?
