New Wren&Cuff pedal - Tall Font Russian

I folded and just ordered one of these. David Wilson showed them to me during my purchasing blackout and I've been trying to resist now that it's over.

I had a chance to borrow a Pickle Pie B awhile back and thought it was great, but have never motivated to buy one (I have a MK1 Swollen that I love). I'm interested in testing the Tall Font against the Civil War/Green transition pedal that I have.

much different. one of the things that makes the russian desireable is it's lowered gain. it's almost a "dist" or "over-drive" as opposed to a fuzz. Plus, much different EQ, brighter.
Tri-pie = smooth and fuzzy
TFR = toothy and gritty

Thank you Matt! Just listened to the clips of both the Tri Pie and the TFR...I can hear the difference! Did you have the clean blend on those bass demos?

Yeah, Matt gets the last bit o' cash I have on hand for effects for some time... :)

Gonna be many months before I can afford a chorus pedal, and octaver, and envelope filter, and... well, etc...

Just emailed Matt and Co about the different tonality between the TFR and the Pickle Pie B (I have a sneaking suspicion that if i bothered to read through this thread my question would have been answered) - I want a toothy, more buzzsaw-like distortion, the TFR sounds like it, but so also does Matt's video demo of the Pickle Pie B - I originally owned the Pickle that eventually went up on Grygyx's Bassfuzz.com and It was an awesome fuzz.

I plan on the Phat Phuck anyway but I dont want to have to get two fuzzes shipped to the uk with it just to decide which one I want to sell.

Im hoping TFR is it.

might ask Dannybuoy very nicely if he can lend me his TFR :P

Very promptly too. For those interrested in the sonic differences in the PPB and the TFR, this was in the email from Matt (regarding the PPB):

It is tailor made for live situations and being as practical as possible. It has the least mid-scoop of all of our pedals. I had free-reign to make that pedal as bass-friendly as possible. With the Russian, my sole goal was to duplicate the tone of the original pedal to the best of my ability. "warts and all" so to speak. I love the Russian, it's freakin' awesome, but I also love the Pickle B for different reasons.

Matt also stated that for more modern, buzz-saw type distortions the PPB might suit me better. I think that the TFR will get me there to a certain extent but that the PPB is closer to what I want.

Having said that, I really miss my green russian muff and so my GAS list is at three:

PPB (stock with clean blend)
TFR (stock without clean blend)
Phat Phuck b

I think I can justify both on my board, getting more vintagey tones from the TFR and get more abusive with the PPB. I may even split the two fuzzes between my two bands (one is pop rock with two guitarists - Pickle Pie B, and one is heavier grunge-style trio stuff - TFR).

Also I bet the TFR sounds awesome on guitar

Got one of these today. Pretty interesting, a little lower gain than expected (despite warnings indicating that.) Seems like it might 'hide' on the lowest settings of the tone knob. Will need more time.
