I like the pick guards on the new BB series, so I got inspired.
Older series, SORRY! But new series inspired pg.
(Not yet the budget for a new series BB.)

Thanks! I designed it in Adobe Illustrator and had it cut out and engraved (the Yamaha logo) by a laser cutting company.

I got my BB435 in today and i like it. I can't say i'm overwhelmed but i'm satisfied with it. I made a well considered choice for this bass and so far it lives up to my expectations.

My main points of attention were the weight, feel of the neck, feel and the sound of the B string and of of course the sound of the bass.

• The bass is light for a five string, it weighs 4.1 kg (9 lbs).
• The neck is comfortable but I need to get used to the tighter string spacing near the nut.
  
• The B string feels and sounds solid.
• The sound of the bass is really good. By itself it doesn't sound so pretty but when i play with a backing track it comes to life. Whether it is grunge rock, Trip hop, Neo-Soul or jazz it's easy to find a appropriate tone.

The extra bonuses are:

• the bass is very pretty (i've got tobacco burst).
  
• The bass makes me play with a softer touch.

Nearly 2 weeks down the line since i got the BB435, and I've swapped it for a 434. In general i'm getting dissapointed with the P pickup. I expected it to be more aggressive but it doesn't have the mid range punch which I expect from a P pickup I think it's far to treble focussed. I have been comparing it to my cheap vintage V4 p-bass copy and the Yamaha can't keep up.

I don't think these basses will follow in the fender killer reputation of the older BB 400 versions.

I only really noticed how much clearer the fender was in the highs and how much more presence the yamaha had in the lows after recording them! each bass has its uses i suppose

I tried 735A 5, it is a nice warm bass but I still love my Japanese yamaha and Sire basses. Nice price though with it though!

no i can't rmb which brand flats the yammy has on but the fender has the labella gold flats on them.
they're also slightly newer (not by very long) which may contribute to the brightness of it

I was hearing that creamy flatwound goodness. Both of them sound good.

Yes, Schallers. Absolutely no modifications necessary. “Bass Machine Heads BM” should get you to them.

Can anyone confirm that the Hipshot HB1 will work without modification? I just discovered my new BB234 has the same tuner problem.

I most certainly can not. If you look up the specs for the Schallers, you can then understand the specs you should be searching for, whatever brand that may be.

Those cream block inlays with the burst look fantastic
