If you go to Brooklyn and want a great steak, go to Peter Luger Steak House. Cash only and expensive. I know you said medium price range, but how much did it cost you to get to and stay in New York? It's time to live, baby! Best steak you will ever have.

My wife and I will have a New York trip soon. We arrive Saturday. I’m aware of Brooklyn Bass Bash. I will try to check that out, if I can convince my wife.

Other than that, I’m looking for food recommendations. Where to enjoy a) Steak (medium priced) and b) Cold Cheese Pizza. We’re staying in the Times Square area, but are fine to visit other boroughs.

If I can convince my wife, I’d like to check out a jazz club. Again, looking for recommendations.

We are seeing Marcus Miller in Newark on in Saturday night (a short train ride out of NYC). We are having dinner at Fornos of Spain in Newark which has fantastic food and not expensive. The Iridium is in Times Square and had lots of great Music.

Tommy Castro & Tinsley Ellis (Blues) are in town this week at the Highline and the Sony Theatre. You’ll get a good steak at heaps of places. The further you move away from the tourist traps the cheaper everything is.

Also the Blue Note, Jazz at the Lincoln Centre and all the small pubs and clubs

If you’re coming all the way to NY, L&B is DEFINITELY worth the subway ride.

I’ve never heard of cold-cheese pizza. Sorry.

Steak- No such thing as moderate prices in Manhattan or in most of the Boroughs, but Keen's Chop House on West 36th is my favorite and not at the high end of the price range. Great history to the place too. A rare place for NYC in that it is rich with history and it has survived without changing. If you prefer Brooklyn do Peter Luger's in Williamsburg (cash only) or Prime Meats on Court St in Brooklyn.

Pizza- That is a lengthy conversation. I could send you to my local neighborhood place and it would be great, but to have a proper NYC experience, John's on Bleeker St. is an institution. If you are in Brooklyn Juliana's on Old Fulton is amazing. I believe it is somehow connected to Grimaldi's by way of divorce or ex-partners or something. It's great though, as is Grimaldi's.

Obviously, it a joke, but the advice is still pretty good. And it’s spot on in the pizza category (and the two speeds in NY). Enjoy your trip!!!

Bobby Van’s is a good spot for steak! My work likes to use that for our annual NYC outing. I don’t know if it’s playing yet but King Kong is on broadway. If you ever get the chance to see MoTown on broadway I highly recommend it, it was so good!

Ok New York, Long Islander here. In my area of Suffolk county in a pizza restaurant called Little Vincent's...a cold cheese pizza is when the pizza comes out of the oven BLAZING HOT and you cut a slice of it for yourself. You place the hot pizza on your plate and then you add a sizable pile of COLD mozzarella cheese on top of the slice. Immediately start eating the slice.

That’s exactly what I was looking for! Looks like a trip to Long Island may be in order.
