Ive been playing for about 3 years now. I have never really understood the need for 5 strings. My band plays C drop. Im just wondering if i should stay with the 4 stringed or move up to the 5 string. Does anyone have any benifits of the 5 sting?

if you are happy with a four, then stay with it...tune down to drop c with your four string...the only reason i would look into a five is if you had a need for that G string...
If your band plays everything in drop C,and that's all you play,you're fine. I like my 5's because I play many styles of music and I don't have to swich tunings to swich songs. I can cover most anything except the ones that drop all the way to A.
