Newbie here, quick question.

So I'm gonna be building my first bass here in a few weeks and just have a question that I can't seem to get an answer on.

I'm not building a Claypool bass, but I am taking something from it. I want the body of the bass to be on the smaller side, and the one thing I'm wondering about is the spacing from the end of the neck to the bridge. As you can see, there is a super short distance between the two on Les's bass. Its gonna have 24 frets, plus I'm only going to run with one soapbar pickup and dont need a ton of space. Your thoughts?

the distance from the end of the neck to the bridge is determined by scale length, and number of frets. If you want less space you can either make the neck have more frets or make the scale length shorter.

Let's use 34" string length for an example. Nut to 12th fret is half way 17". 12th to 24th is one quarter of string length at 8.5". Nut to 24th is 3/4 string length at 25.5". So basic math 25.5 from 34 gives 8.5" from 24th to theoretical bridge line. So for any string length the distance from 24th fret to bridge line is 1/4 overall string length. Pretty easy!
