welcome aboard Sara... im new as well :D. Im 16, play a '65 Epiphone Newport, 4 string.. currently lookin for a 4 or 5 string Warwick Corvette or maybe thumb.

Oh, and if your new to music, heres my .02 cents, combined with my dads 45 years of guitar experience heh heh. Play with people, as much as you can. There is no better way to learn than by jamming, and when you do, dont be afraid to ask questions. Oh yeah, and ive yet to meet a bassist who has become good purely off of learning tabs, so take the above guys advice and learn to read music! Im trudging through this process now, its a bitch, but hey. WHat kind of music do you play?

(why is it that my greeting post gets 3 replies why a girls gets 50 someodd? Kinda makes you think... heh heh.)

I never had money to go take lessons, so I just jammed from pretty much day 1 with people. I feel that if I hadn't, I'd suck more than I do now (year and a half later). I still ask questions to this day. But yes, that is very good advice choochbass.

I disagree with the 'there is no better way to learn than jamming'. Taking lessons for a year on theory, technique and harmony is much better than jamming with guys for a year.

And after a year of two of that kinda stuff, I'd agree that jamming with other people will take you to the next step. Theory can only get you so far IMO... but once you are comfortable with your theory, technique and such, getting into a band with other dedicated musicians is the best way to improve (that's not to say you shouldn't be practising your ass off! :p)

OK, make up your mind- you are driving me nuts. I am saying that you need to learn your **** with a teacher before you go out and play that goshdarn rock and roll stuff.

I never had a bass teacher. yet, i'm doing decent teaching myself. I can read music, and know a fair amount of theory from being in the high school jazz band. I just think if I got a teacher i'd be bored of him telling me what to learn. Not saying getting a teacher is bad or anything.

Well, I was in band before too, and you do learn something. However, a teacher does more than tell you what to learn. A teacher may improve your technique so that your wrist isnt hurting when you or older, or he might show you a few tricks that you just can't learn online.

hey there

and have my purply black ibanez btb405 which i love

Hmmm. I'm 15 male and English!

I see you have joint us, enjoy and ask anything you want, and see us all regularly. I play a Squier p-bass, has a '78 DiMarzio in it and I have an MIM Jazz bass, with seymour duncan basslines hot for jazz pups in it. Oh and the jazz is black and white... *drools profusely*

My effects are simple, EHX Q-Tron into a Boss GEB-7 EQ, into a Boss ODB-3 Overdrive. My amp is an ashdown Mag 250/115.

Enjoy your stay...

Welcome TB Sara! I've been away awhile.

I play an MTD 535, F Bass BN5, Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn, and a couple of Fenders. I started playing bass when I was your age, and have been playing ever since.... I'm an old fart at 47 now. Keep playing the low end!

Hi Sara:

I'm 48 years old, but still feel like I'm 15 (when I switched from guitar to bass)!

I play F Basses (BN5, BN6 and Studio 5), a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub P Bass, a 1996 MIA Fender Jazz V and my old 1971 Gibson EB-0. When I was 15 I had only an unknown (maybe Raven) Japanese made J - bass!

Two of my daughters (18 & 20 years old) also play - the younger one plays guitar (Ovation acoustic) and the oldest also plays bass (Ibanez Soundgear 4 string).

Welcome to TB! Definitely the best bass resource on the internet (and the most fun, too).

:hyper: :D
