Newbie needs help with passive/active electronics

Just purchased a Carvin LB70 4string with a passive/active
electronics. I go through the mixer using a Radial DI...Do I
boost the treble, mids, and bass completely and make adjustments, if needed, on the mixer? Is this what is called "going flat?" When going passive....I go detent at the controls...thanks guys..the struggling newbie.

Not all controls work the same way on all basses. Some EQ is cut-only, some is boost-only, some offers both cut and boost, and some EQ controls are interactive in ways that are not obvious just by looking at them. However I'd say generally if your EQ knobs have a center detent, then that detent is the "flat" setting while the EQ is active.

While the bass is switched to passive mode, most (maybe all) of those EQ knobs do nothing whatsoever anyway, they are not relevant to passive mode. In some cases there is an exception where one of the EQ knobs acts as a passive tone rolloff when in the passive setting. For passive tone knobs, the flat setting is "all the way up", since all they do is roll off signal, so the max setting is where nothing is lost/changed.
