Double Bass [Newbie] Pickups

I recently got my hand on a 2nd hand Double bass from a mate who stopped playing the DB when he left the school band.

It appears to be an acoustic DB because i can't see any pickup near the bridge at all nor does it have any mic.

Thats what the current setup is like (except it isn't a king DB!). No pickups.

If i were to buy a set of pickups like these:

would it be ready to be connected to an amp/preamp setup and be playable?
 
All double basses are acoustic -- the pickup is always an add-on. The setup you describe should work. Definitely get a preamp. Whether it sounds good is a matter of some trial and errror. Your first pickup won't be your last. You will learn a lot about EQ'ing and dealing with feedback, all good rites of passage. Research the threads in this forum, as there is a lot of discussion about different pickup types.
