newbie question ....how to hook up head to cab

What is the proper way to hook up a Peavey max 800 to a 1820 cab.... I was running the cord from bass to the low input then i was running a single speaker cord from the low output on head to the full range input ....should i be running it in bi-amp with the high and low input if so does it matter where i plug the bass in up front ?

sorry for the newbie question just dont want to hurt anything ...even though it keeps on blowing fusses now...the fuse next to the power cord..

Also, Reading the manuals, and having a more experienced player who will help you out in the real world is highly recommended at first. Experience right there in front of you beats people on the internet for many things. I'm glad I had a little help way back when this was the only way to learn the basics.

The question was about the different ways to hook up my head to my cab or the correct way. the part about the amp blowing the fuses wasn't even part of the question. Guess i didn't ask the correct way .........

I have an 1820.

There are 4 Jacks. (2) Normal/Full Range..... Bi Amp (1) Hi (1) Low

Use the Main output of the amp into the Normal (either one).

If you want to use just the (2) 10" use the Hi
If you want to use just the 18" use the Low

You could also send separate signals into the Hi and Low, using either a stereo amp, or 2 amps.

But if you want the full glory of the cabinet...use the Normal input.


Not sure how they mark the back outputs on the 800 though....on my Mark IV there are parallel outs marked Speakers

This isn't mine but its the same model ....mine is down at the practice space .. hope fully ppl can make it out if not ill be down there monday ..

There's no full range out?....weird

But I'm pretty sure you can send the low to the low (1820), and hi to the high...I've never done it though.

Or just try one or the other into the normal input of cabinet....figure out which one you like better.

or...even unhook the speaker lines on the 800, and putting a jack, then running into the 1820 Normal.

Neither output will hurt the head...go by personal preference.

Both are 400wattRMS and 4 ohm minimum...and the 1820 is a 4 ohm cabinet...so it's all good.


(your fuse issue however, has nothing to do with it...that's another issue altogether, not an output issue IMO...take it to a shop)

yup its going to the shop tuesday .... I just bought this 3 months ago or so had 2 practices with it and it died in the middle of the 3rd practice... I know it had been sitting for 2 years when i got it...... so its all good... chance you take buying used gear ...im just happy to own it and the 1820 that goes with it..

Not familiar with this model, but I suppose it could be configured like a G-K 800RB. A full-range/biamp switch on the front. With the switch disengaged, it sends full range signal to all outputs. When engaged, it introduces a variable active crossover into the circuit which splits the lows and highs.

Again, I'm not sure if the Peavey does it like that.
You should be able to find a manual online at Peavey's website.

OK....I found a PDF manual in this here thread.

It says there's a switch on the rear for biamp/full range. When in full range, the signal from all speaker outs is full range and full power. Crossover control on the front panel is variable from 50Hz-500Hz when "bi-amp" is engaged.
