Howdy all. Just a quick write-in to those in-the-know about electronics for acoustics:

I'm looking for a buffering preamp to use with my old Czech plywood upright, that I'm getting to know a bit. I have a GK400RB and a little Bag End cab to use with it, and a Barcus-Berry clamp-on pickup. I know BB makes a buffering preamp jig for the p'up, but I've found this for a little less bread, and wonder if it might be more generally useful as an EQ for a wider variety of applications...

The Solstice is great if you intend to use a mic in combination with the pickup. Other choices would be a used Rane AP 13 sometimes they show up on ebay. A Headway EDB-1 that work as a blender. Now, if all you really need is a Buffer Pre amp then I'd recommend the HPF/PRE that fDEck builds, cause it's way less expensive than any or those other devices, and has a phase switch, lo cut filter, 10 meg ohm load. He now builds two versions. The new one has a battery indicator and a level control. Take a look at his site.

Ric, the OP linked to the Equinox, not the Solstice.

Count, popular preamps you can find a lot of info about in this forum include the HPF-Pre, Headway, and Fishman PRO-EQ Platinum.

The HPF-Pre is the least expensive, has no EQ, but does have a 10 megohm buffering input, a high pass filter, and phase reversal. It might get you to the point where the EQ on your amp is all you need.

The Headway and Fishman have more features.

That's an old pickup ... Lots of info in this forum on p/u's too.
