Double Bass Newbie Rosin question...

I've just purchased my first bow and I'm unsure of the best rosin to get, was a bit naive and didn't realise there was so many....

Any advice on what I should look for/ avoid when picking one?

I'd start off using whatever your teacher uses, just so you have a common starting point, but a lot of it will be trial and error based on your preference. I swear by Carlssons year round. It's smooth with enough grip to get volume, but you will find a good number of players (especially large section bassists) who use pops because it's very grippy and very loud (I find it a bit harsh for my bass).

Carlssons sounds like a good place to start but I'll read up on others similar, would rather start with something smoother and warm than grippy high volume.

Especially in the winter I like to use Pops bass rosin. Don't use this in the summer because it will melt.
